The OSCE (Objective structured clinical examination) is designed to assess your ability to competently apply your professional nursing skills and knowledge in Australia. You must demonstrate that you can apply knowledge to the care of patients at the level expected of a newly registered nurse. The examination tests your ability to apply knowledge and skills to the care of patients rather than how well you can remember and recite facts.
What will I be tested on?
The OSCE comprises of multiple stations, each lasting for a stipulated time (15-20 mins). The stations are scenario based and relate to four stages of the nursing process:
Additionally, the candidates are also assessed on 2-3 nursing skills in the stations.
Please remember that you will have done many of these nursing skills several times before in your nursing practice. Make sure that you read the station instructions and scenarios carefully.
More information will be shared about OSCE as soon as it is available from AHPRA.
